September 23, 2019 to October 31, 2019Tue to Sun 11:00 am to 5:00 pm / Friday 11am-9pm / Closed MondayNov 2018 to Fall 2019 (Not specific dates) The Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau (1931-2007) emerged onto the Canadian art scene in the 1960s. Androgyny expresses his view of the fluidity and interconnectedness of life, as well as gender. In 1983 he offered this mural, in a decolonizing gesture of reconciliation, to the people of Canada. The work was installed in the lobby of what is today Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada headquarters in Gatineau, Quebec. In the early 2000s, then Governor General Michaëlle Jean arranged for it to be installed in the ballroom at Rideau Hall. Today, Androgyny is recognized as one of Morrisseau's most significant works of art, and a reminder to Canadians of the enduring bond formed by an important gift.Back . Event Details.
