Open-Ended Narratives: Ted Howorth, Derek Breuckner & Bill Pura Here is an excerpt taken from the exhibition brochure: "Open-ended Narratives presents the work of three well-established Winnipeg artists: William Pura, E.J. Howorth and Derek Brueckner. Each is well travelled; each creates hid art using various media; and each has exhibited widely,internationally and nationally. Though their art is unique and seemingly unrelated, this exhibition explores their common underlying element: the open-ended narrative, the stories of human life. Pura’s paintings, Howorth’s prints and Brueckner’s digital prints on canvas, commence a narrative. The works, however, do not finish the narratives. The artists challenge viewers to enter the work and partake in the individual visual sagas. We are encouraged to find our own place in the images and to engage in the balance of each story. Their respective narratives suggest both the told and the untold, and the public and private, as they reveal an aspect of reality while igniting the imaginary. They start with what we know—the street, the house, a swimming pool, a specific place, or indeed, the human anatomy. They then transform that reality to present compelling, positive and engaging works."
