Composed by Igor Stravinsky and choreographed by Valslav Nijinski, the performance stunned audiences with its primitive movement, driving rhythms, dissonant crescendos, and swelling sensuality. The Rite of Spring foreshadowed the shock waves that would rock the Western World for the first half of the 20th century, and has come to symbolize the human capacity for horror and revolution.
