Mardi Jazz: Chenoa McKelvey & Jonathan Alexiuk

~ February 9, 2021~ 8:00 pm~ . ~ ~ February 9, 2021~ 8:00 pm~ ~ Chenoa McKelvey and Jonathan Alexiuk have been performing as a duo and in their Smith's Onion trio, but also in various ensembles for the past two years. They share a passion for the music of the first half of the 20th century, which is clearly expressed in their performances. The audience is won over by the sounds of their extravagant voices, burning swing tunes, or through delicate and dynamic musical ballads. Their performances are linked by their musical complicity, always swinging, bringing a burlesque alchemy on stage.Jonathan Alexiuk was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After graduating from John Taylor Collegiate, he began performing in Winnipeg and Kenora, and soon after on the Princess Cruise Lines. He joined the Air Command Band in 2004 and played there as a pianist, trombonist and arranger until 2007.~~Jonathan performs and records as a pianist, trumpeter, saxophonist, trombonist, clarinetist and as a self-taught arranger.~~Chenoa McKelvey is a talented musician, blending influences from blues, country and jazz. In his guitar playing, Chenoa models his sound on that of swing guitarists of the first half of the 20th century, his notable influences being Django Reinhardt, Barney Kessel and Charlie Christian. With her vibrant, riff-based improvisation style, she aims to take her listeners back to a time when jazz was not only music to listen to, but also to dance.~ ~ ~ ~ Back~ ~ ~ ~ .
