MCO Concert Featuring Broms-Jacobs,Harrington,Sparks,Stobbe & Wright

~ January 15, 2021~ 7:30 pm~ . ~ ~ January 15, 2021~ 7:30 pm~ ~ As a prelude to our Spring Festival, the MCO is releasing a full version of our 4 October concert for free via YouTube live-stream at 7:30pm on January 15. It can be accessed here. We're making this release entirely free for all as a gift to our audience and to the greater prairie community. We know that almost no digital musical experience substitutes for the intimacy and immersiveness of live music, and we miss it terribly. Performers continue to seek out ways to create meaning for audiences. We were absolutely floored by this concert, and want to do everything we can to share its magic~~with music-lovers as they strive to stay connected, and appreciate beauty, from home. We encourage viewers to check in just before 7:30pm on stream concert-night, engage with the MCO community in real-time in the chat and comment sections, and enjoy the show. It took place originally for a small, distanced gathering at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and featured some of Winnipeg's favourite musicians, including oboist Caitlin Broms-Jacobs, bassoonist Allen Harrington, percussionist Victoria Sparks, violinist Karl Stobbe,~~and oboist/English horn player Tracy Wright. The ensemble performed, among other things:~~a new work, entitled Heaven's Reflexes, by distinguished Manitoban jazz composer (and pianist/trombonist) Jeff Presslaff and a special arrangement by Broms-Jacobs of Bach's Goldberg Variations for reed trio. Bach's work has often been compared to painter M.C. Escher's labyrinthine optical illusions. While the Variations will always feel like something of a maze, Broms-Jacobs' highly original arrangement casts a new light on its many paths by reassigning the~~keyboard's various voices to English horn, oboe,~~and bassoon. The rich colours of the reed family reveal new depths in Bach's work. ~ ~ ~ ~ Back~ ~ ~ ~ . Event Details.
