Bright Lights, Big City In Tandem: A rising star in the international dance world, Peter Quanz was commissioned by the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2009 to create this groundbreaking piece to showcase the Pulitzer Prize winning composition Double Sextet by American Steve Reich. The clever, fast-paced piece aptly reflects the shadows and light, melancholy and elation of life in the big city. The Ecstasy of Rita Joe: Audiences’ and dance reviewers’love affair with Tara Birtwhistle has been ongoing since her debut with the RWB in 1995. This poignant performance of Rita Joe will be Tara’s special farewell to her loyal Winnipeg audience. In the Upper Room: One of the most influential figures of 20th century dance, Twyla Tharp has choreographed more than 135 ballets, five Hollywood movies and four Broadway shows. She has received a deluge of awards, working with everyone from Bob Fosse to Baryshnikov. Tharp’s “fierce, driving and relentless” choreography changed the face of modern ballet forever. This signature work gives you a taste of Tharp’s Big Apple with pulsating rhythms and innovative, energetic movement.
